Roberta Annan, a development consultant, impact investor and philanthropist, on Monday attended and participated in Empowering Women: Body Inclusivity and Diversity Summit at the United Nations in New York City.
The summit opened with a fashion show by Council of Fashion Designers of America designer Christian Siriano who developed a line for Lane Bryant, host of the event.
Roberta was asked to attend and speak on a panel as she is well-recognized and respected as an advocate for the equal representation of women in fashion. Roberta participated in a panel on accelerating environmental protection in the fashion industry.
The panel moderator was Annette Richardson, Senior Managing Partner, Decade Citizen, Former Special Advisor, UN Women and Senior Advisor, UN Office for Partnerships. Other panellists included Karen Newman, Senior Consultant for Sustainable Development Gold Fund and Bob Bland, CEO and Founder of “Manufacture New York,” Fashion Designer.
Among other topics, panellists discussed the real cost of fast fashion to the environment and to humanity, and measures we must take to become more informed and to support the sustainable production of clothing, accessories and beauty products globally.
